Amor by D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective to captivate audiences at Cooktown Shire Hall

Cook Shire Council and JUTE Theatre Company are pleased to welcome Amor by D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective to the Cooktown Shire Hall for a one-show-only special event. 

The newest production from D.I.V.E. - the award-winning multi-lingual contemporary theatre company - Amor is an immersive theatre experience that explores the complexities of love through movement, visual poetry, and compelling narratives.

"Every person holds a love story, and Amor aims to unravel the threads that bind us all together in the collective story of humanity," says director, Cesar Genaro.

Cook Shire Mayor Robyn Holmes stated, “Hosting Amor in Cooktown offers the community a unique opportunity to experience world-class theatre locally. This supports Council’s aim to provide a wide range of arts, music and theatre performances that enrich and support our towns."

Sally Eales, Cook Shire’s Regional Development Manager, added, "Bringing a performance like Amor to Cooktown Shire Hall not only enriches our cultural landscape but also provides a platform for local theatre enthusiasts to engage with professional artists. The post-show workshop is a great initiative to inspire and develop our local talent."

The Amor tour forms part of JUTE Theatre Company’s ‘DARTS’ (Driving and Activating the Regional Theatre Sector) initiative, which aims to build professional capacity, forge artistic connections, and raise the profile of regional theatre.

JUTE Theatre Company’s DARTS Creative Producer, Jess Lamb explained, “As well as offering the opportunity for Cooktown audiences to have a great night at the theatre, the Amor tour is designed to start creative conversations between local and visiting artists. We know there is community interest in creating a theatre group in Cooktown, and hope that the post-show workshop can be another step towards making this a reality.”

Amor will show at the Cooktown Shire Hall on Monday 19 August 2024 at 6 PM. Following the performance, a free workshop titled ‘Creating a Cooktown Theatre Group’ will start at 7:30 PM.

Tickets are available through TryBooking and cost $15. Parents are advised that Amor is suitable for audiences aged 15+ and that children under the age of 6 years will not be admitted into the venue.
