Have your say on the future of Lakeland

We encourage everyone to have their say and provide their input on the draft plans for the future of Lakeland.

This is a unique opportunity for the community to be involved in planning to support the projected population growth of Lakeland over the next 20 years and beyond and in doing so help create an attractive place for families and farm workers to invest and live as well as for visitors to spend some time to enjoy the township of Lakeland.

Cook Shire Council is excited to share their progress on the draft Master Plan and Infrastructure Plan for Lakeland and welcomes the community to give feedback and direction on the intended areas for urban expansion and future development.

In recent years, Lakeland has experienced a significant demand for housing and associated infrastructure to meet the demands of not only existing residents, but also workers and other persons looking to move to and build a future in Lakeland. However, Lakeland is currently experiencing a lack of housing availability and choice. Lakeland is also well placed to capitalise on its opportunity to attract tourists, being located on both the Mulligan Highway and Peninsula Developmental Road.

The impetus for this project is the rapidly expanding agricultural sector around Lakeland. With the potential to provide an irrigated water supply, such as the proposed Palmer River Dam, the demand for housing, commercial, industrial land, community facilities and emergency services will inevitably increase further and appropriate land use and infrastructure planning is critical to meet those needs.

We have listened to your previous feedback and input to draft a master plan and infrastructure plan to support the expected future growth in Lakeland. We now need your feedback, insights and direction to ensure that the Lakeland Master Plan and Infrastructure Plan captures the community sentiment and maximises the future opportunities for Lakeland.

Please join us on Tuesday 11 July from 4.30pm–6.30pm at Lakeland Town Hall to meet the team working on the Lakeland Master Plan and Infrastructure Plan and provide your input on the progress so far.

Please also complete our online survey either before, during or after the community workshop (this survey will close on Friday 14 July).

Following community consultation, we will analyse and incorporate your input to help determine the final master plan which is expected to be completed by late 2023.
